The EMIs Chamber of Ghana has welcomed the signing into law, the amended bill that abolishes the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy). President John Dramani Mahama earlier on Wednesday April 2, 2025, signed into law a number of amended bills that abolish taxes such as the E-Levy, Betting Tax, and Emissions Tax.
The action by the President aligns with his administration’s promise to abolish a number of taxes within the first 120 days of his administration.
Speaking on the President’s assent to the amended bill which abolishes the E-Levy in particular, the CEO of the EMIs Chamber of Ghana, Ing. Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey, commended the President for honoring a promise he reiterated during a meeting with the leadership of the Chamber in June last year.
Working with the GRA
The EMIs Chamber of Ghana has meanwhile highlighted ongoing engagements with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to ensure a smooth implementation of the removal of the E-Levy on all transactions. In terms of implementation, Ing. Dr. Ashigbey, stated that members will start off first by setting the E-Levy to zero on all transactions, meaning that members will not make any deductions on transactions.
In the event that there is an accidental deduction however, members will refund such deductions to customers.
The need for time
While indicating its readiness to ensure a smooth implementation, the Chamber says it is waiting for the gazetted ACT as well as an official notification from the GRA giving members the go ahead. Following this official notification, all systems will need to be recalibrated by members before the zero-rating of the E-Levy comes into effect.
